F-Stop Magazine’s Happy Accidents

I’m pleased to say that I have 3 images, in the October/November 2014 online group exhibition for F-Stop Magazine – Happy Accidents.

My images span 3 different projects that all feature plants photographed at night. Here’s one of them – a hydrangea caught in the wind in my own back garden.

Take a look at the whole group exhibition to see some great photographs from all over the place.

Here’s another image which came from my documentation of the Chasing Shadows projection at Hackney WickED! 2014.

Chasing shadows in RED – Hackney WickED 2014 documentation

A massive THANK YOU! to Hackney WickED and Lab Film Projects for including my work in this year’s programme – Very Moving Pictures.

To see the film in full click here – it’s best viewed at about 2-3m high. To look at the original photographs take a look at my website.

Here are a couple of photographs of my film as it was shown in the Cinema Lounge.

This version  has a more constant pace than the rhythmic original (shown at Islington Exhibits 2013) and emphasises the built up layers that appear within the transitions.

One of my long term aims with this piece is to show it in places where it can interplay with it’s surroundings – such as passing car lights and street lights, real-world shadows, shapes etc. I’d not previously had a chance to test this idea, until now.  But thanks to the quirks of photography I was able to pick up some images that also absorbed the ambient light – with some amazing effects!  (I must stress that it didn’t look like this to the naked eye – more like the first picture above)

I’m now even more keen to project this series in every-day places, so will start the hunt now ready for a good evening location that I can use when the clocks go back!

B3306

B3306 (ragwort, common sorrel, red campion, hedge woundwort)

Created using a mobile phone camera, this series documents a small sample of the vibrant hedges lining Cornwall’s 4,500 miles of twisting ancient roads that have grown out of simple tracks since Neolithic times. Although they appear wild, the original hedges are man-made and are tended on an annual basis.

Speeding through the flowers, leaves and grasses as they tumbled over each other, I was captivated by the vivid colours that reflected the abstract, modern art of the region.  I couldn’t help but acknowledge how fleeting my presence is in comparison to the many years that these flowers have bloomed.

Cornish Roads (hedges) in Flow is a series within a larger body of work that I’m slowly building – Roadside Planting.   You can also see more images from this series and body of work on my twitter and instagram pages.

Ophelia #1-6  is an exploration of the story of Shakespeare’s Ophelia, made in response to previous artistic interpretations.

Original Polaroid emulsion lifts of underwater photographs subjected to a series of processes that simultaneously intensify and degrade the image. The destructive yet delicate nature of the water-based emulsion lift continues the themes of the subject matter and ensures that each print is completely unique in its tones and arrangement.

Limited edition run of 30 sets of original prints onto acid free water-colour paper, handmade by the artist from this now discontinued Polaroid film. Each unframed print is numbered and signed recto, and mounted under conservation grade board.

All work is for sale, for more information about my work please contact me.

Happy Birthday Rowan Arts!

In celebration of the 10 year birthday of Rowan Arts,  colleagues past and present, friends and supporters were invited to contribute artwork for a fun, vibrant and eclectic group show inspired by the Dr Seuss poem. ‘Oh the places you’ll go!’.

The exhibition was launched at their party on 10th January, with patron Jeremy Corbyn, MP for Islington North speaking in testament to their work over the last decade.

Thanks to Rowan Arts continued support for my work, my two test images from ‘…and then I was the wind’ have been included in this exhibition, which means one last chance to view them before they go to their new owners.
