Flower Flower Water Light is a travel diary of chaotic beauty and colourful abstraction, documenting a 3 week road trip through the landscapes of the UK, France, and Spain. Triple exposures on 35mm slide film blend and overlay flowers, plants, the land, and ripples of sunlight on the surface of the sea, thereby recording my journey in a series of ethereal images that emulate memory and movement through time and place

Flower Flower Water Light in BORDERS

My image from my series Flower Flower Water Light will be part of the SHUTTERHUB BORDERS exhibition, part of the MARCHLAND season of performances and talks.

The exhibition runs from 15th January – 16th April 2018 at The Bridewell Theatre, St Bride Foundation, Bride Lane, Fleet Street, London, EC4Y 8EQ.

The Private View is on 12th January from 6.30-9.30pm – everyone is welcome; RSVP to info@shutterhub.org.uk

The exhibition also extends online, more details to follow…

Flower Flower Water Light is a travel diary of chaotic beauty and colourful abstraction, documenting a road trip through the landscapes of the UK, France, and Spain. Avoiding any deliberate regional classification, I allowed the images to form chronologically throughout my own journey and experiences, unifying the three countries into one emotional state.  Using triple exposures on 35mm slide film I chose to blend and to overlay flowers, plants, the land, and ripples of sunlight on the surface of the sea, thereby recording my journey in a series of ethereal images that emulate memory and movement through time and place.

You can see more images from this series on my website.

I’m also very excited to have been chosen to feature on the exhibition flyer:

Ophelia #3

Ophelia #3

Combining underwater digital photography with alternative printing methods, this series studies the destruction and turmoil that lies beneath the romanticism and serenity suggested in traditional artistic representations of the story of Ophelia, both in image and process.

After creating these underwater photographs I repeatedly printed and re-photographed them using lo-fi techniques to simultaneously intensify and degrade the images. In the final stage I used out-of-date Polaroid film to make water-based emulsion lifts onto textured watercolour paper; the destructive yet delicate nature of the process continuing the themes of the subject matter.

Ophelia #2 – polaroid emulsion lift

Each emulsion lift is handmade by me and completely unique. The mounted, unframed  original prints are on sale at £44 each.  If you don’t mind mixing and matching edition numbers you can collect the full set of 6 in the sale.

Established in 1991, and hosting a wonderfully eclectic collection of beautiful work, Cupola remains one of the most respected contemporary galleries for the sale and exhibition of fine art & fine craft in the north of England.

this table is sad… on LensCulture Network Gallery

A selection of images from my series ‘this table is sad because no one is sitting at it’ is featured on the LensCulture Network Gallery through October/November 2017.

this table is sad because no one is sitting at it

night swans – this table is sad because no one is sitting at it

“I find myself repeatedly passing through my life without actually engaging with it, going through the motions but my mind elsewhere. When I am lost in my inner thoughts those inhabiting the outer world around me disappear, and I too cease to exist. My awareness of this state creates a duality of experience through which I struggle to re-engage with the present.”

This series employs a twin lens photographic technique, to record a parallax effect that forces a continual re-evaluation of the everyday transitory moment

This is a really personal body of work, so I’m very pleased that LensCulture have included it.  Here’s a link to my project on the gallery (until End Nov 2017), and here’s a link to the work in my LensCulture Portfolio, along with some of my other projects.

You can also buy a 48 page book of the full series of images, printed on high quality pearl paper, through blurb.

LensCulture is one of the most authoritative resources for contemporary photography, committed to discovering and promoting the best of the global photography community. The LensCulture Network offers committed photographers a place to show their work on a global stage and advance in their personal practice. The Gallery is a curated showcase of the Network members’ projects—our editors choose from members’ work, whether newly published images or great series that never received deserved attention.
