“I find myself repeatedly passing through my life without actually engaging with it, going through the motions but my mind elsewhere. When I am lost in my inner thoughts those inhabiting the outer world around me disappear, and I too cease to exist. My awareness of this state creates a duality of experience through which I struggle to re-engage with the present.”

Created using every day colour films and high street developing labs, this projection series employs a twin lens photographic technique to record a parallax effect that forces a continual re-evaluation of the everyday transitory moment.

‘this table is sad because no one is sitting at it’ is intended for exhibition both as a large scale projection and an intimate book.

Each series uses a different photographic/printmaking technique to study the passing of time from different emotional viewpoints.

As well as showing prints from each series, I am also showing a book of images for ‘this table is sad because no one is sitting at it’.  This is the first time that I am exhibiting this work so I’m particularly excited.

The exhibition is open Monday-Friday, 9am-6.30pm until 9th October.

On Friday 4th September there will also be an open evening, from 6.30-9pm where I will also be showing projections of ‘Chasing Shadows’ and ‘this table is sad because no one is sitting at it’. Copies of the book will also shortly be available for sale – watch this space for more info.

About the Free Space Gallery

Established in 2010 the Free Space Gallery works with local and national artists within the unique settings of the Kentish Town Health Centre and the Queens Crescent Practice, two NHS facilities in north London. The Free Space Gallery delivers a programme of free exhibitions, free creative workshops and events, an art therapy course and an artist in residence programme. All of their work is generously supported by the Kentish Town Improvement Fund.

Part of the Worldwide Photography Gala Awards, the Julia Margaret Cameron Award is addressed to professional and non professional women photographers worldwide. With 17 categories, Photographers are invited to submit work in all mediums, styles, and schools of thought.

Honourable Mention for Chasing Shadows

My proposal to show Chasing Shadows (projection) has been awarded an Honourable Mention in PH21 Gallery’s international competition for a solo exhibition!

PH21 Gallery Solo Call – Finalist!

Cornish Roads (hedges) in Life Framer Award!

This image from my series Cornish Roads (hedges), in Flow was selected for the winners shortlist of Theme 5 – Colours of the Life Framer Edition II Award, judged by Evgeny Tchebotarev – cofounder of the 500px online photography community.

The series is an abstract study of time, colour, movement, and the flow-state, captured in the vibrant hedges that line some of Cornwall’s twisting ancient roads.  Of the image, Life Framer said:

“Photographic cubism? The blurred memory of an artwork? Or that same artwork for a drifting mind? The image is abstract enough to disguise the subject, lost in motion, but the resulting colours and shapes are beautiful – both on the surface and in a way that encourages you to sink into them. It’s a clever photographic technique, brilliantly realised.”

Life Framer is an award designed to source and showcase outstanding photography from amateur, emerging and established photographers, aiming to bring exposure to talented photographers from all over the world.

500px is aimed at aspiring and professional photographers, with 10 million monthly active users. It is an incredible place to find inspiration and connect photographers with one another.

Miniclick are holding another of their great The Heart Grows Fonder interactive book-making exhibitions in association with the Artist’s Book Cooperative (ABC) at FORMAT 2015.

Following FORMAT 2015’s theme of Evidence, this years workshop will take the form of a crime zine. Photographs will be shown in a live evolving exhibition (THE WALL), and used in a ‘zine-making workshop (CRIME ‘ZINE) during the opening weekend of FORMAT 2015.
