Flower Flower Water Light in BORDERS

My image from my series Flower Flower Water Light will be part of the SHUTTERHUB BORDERS exhibition, part of the MARCHLAND season of performances and talks.

The exhibition runs from 15th January – 16th April 2018 at The Bridewell Theatre, St Bride Foundation, Bride Lane, Fleet Street, London, EC4Y 8EQ.

Flower Flower Water Light is a travel diary of chaotic beauty and colourful abstraction, documenting a road trip through the landscapes of the UK, France, and Spain. Avoiding any deliberate regional classification, I allowed the images to form chronologically throughout my own journey and experiences, unifying the three countries into one emotional state.  Using triple exposures on 35mm slide film I chose to blend and to overlay flowers, plants, the land, and ripples of sunlight on the surface of the sea, thereby recording my journey in a series of ethereal images that emulate memory and movement through time and place.

Ophelia in Rebel Daughters

My Ophelia series has been selected for the Rebel Daughters exhibition, marking the 100th anniversary of the first votes for women, and launching a year-long programme of activity in partnership with Doncaster Museums. Just under 60 women artists based locally, nationally and internationally have been selected to show work that celebrates the passions and interests of women artists today.

The exhibition runs from 18th January – 7th April 2018 at The Point, 16 South Parade, Doncaster, DN1 2DR

Open weekdays from 10am-4pm and Saturdays from 10am-1.30pm. The Point is closed on all Bank Holiday Mondays and during Easter weekend.

London Independent Photography – Highlighted Photographer!

The 2018 London Independent Photography exhibition opens this week – I’m astonished and incredibly excited to have been selected as the Highlighted Photographer with my series ‘Surrender the Land’

I have 4 photographs on display, these are two of them.

The exhibition is open from Wednesday 6th December until Monday 11th December 2018.

Opening times Wednesday-Sunday, 11am-6pm and Monday 11am-5pm

London Independent Photography is a community organisation for amateur and professional photographers with more than 500 members. Our activities are designed to bring together photographers with different interests and levels of expertise who wish to develop their personal approach to photography, improve their skills and gain recognition for their work. The LIP Annual Exhibition, now in its 29th year, provides a platform for members to exhibit their best work to be shared with a wider public audience.

A series of talks and events will feature throughout the exhibition period, with leading figures from the photographic world including: Dewi Lewis the celebrated photobook publisher; Simon Roberts, an outstanding landscape photographer with an emphasis on human geography; Tanya Houghton, presenting her project ‘A Migrant’s Tale’ – a collection of narrative explorations told through the language of food; a panel discussion on ‘The Street Today’, and more.

The Photographers’ Gallery was founded in 1971 as the first public gallery in the UK dedicated to the medium. It remains a leader in the presentation and exploration of photography in all its forms.  It has been instrumental in promoting photography’s pivotal and influential role in culture and society and ensuring its position as a significant art form.

 

Update – after the exhibition…

It was great to take part in this year’s exhibition. I was also invited to be part of the presentation and panel discussion on The Street Today, with award winning mobile phone photographer Olly Lang, course leader of Goldsmiths International MA in Photography and Urban Cultures Paul Halliday, and the wonderful John Comino-James.  I really enjoyed learning about their different approaches and also sharing my own work and views on Street Photography.

I’m really excited to finally have the opportunity to show Cornish roads (hedges), in Flow as a projection!

I’m taking part in the group exhibition ‘Traces’ at the Free Space Gallery, Kentish Town Health Centre, London. Featuring 17 artists the exhibition runs from 22nd June – 17th July 2017, open Monday-Friday 9am-6.30pm (5pm on Fridays).

About Cornish roads (hedges), in Flow

Set in the southern tip of Cornwall, this series explores colour, time, movement and the relationship between the artist and the land. This timed projection emphasises the transient nature of the moment in which the photographs were made, and restores a sense of the movement inherent in the subject and process.

Hosted by Photocrowd, the judges for the FIX Photo Festival Expert Choice Awards are Laura Noble – curator and director of LA Noble Gallery, Magnum Photographer Chris Steele-Perkins, photographer/writer/filmmaker Lottie Davies, and Ben Brain – editor of Digital Camera Magazine. Of my photograph, the judges said:

“We loved the fractured light which felt harmonious from the lyrical visuals, we all thought of music when we saw this. The palette works really well and gives it an expressionistic tone. A really great stylistic use of the photographic form.”

The Experts also Commended another of my photographs from this series. You can see both of my photographs and all of the other winning photographs on Photocrowd.

FIX Photo is produced and curated by LANG Director Laura Noble. This free exhibition of photography includes works by an array of domestic and international talent. FIX Photo celebrates the many facets of the medium in all its guises. I’m very happy to have my work in the exhibition. PH21 Gallery is a contemporary exhibition space established in 2012 in Budapest, Hungary. The mission of the gallery is to provide group and solo exhibition opportunities and international exposure for contemporary photographers around the world.

Untitled – London Project / Traces

The Curated Fridge is the brainchild of Yorgos Efthymiadis, a unique project with the aim of celebrating fine art photography and connecting photographers from around the world.

This exhibition was guest curated by Elin Spring – founder, editor and head writer of the photography blog “What Will You Remember?”, featuring exhibit reviews, curator and artist interviews, book reviews and commentary.

My photograph is from a sketch-series of images exploring the light, shadows, and layers of reflections that appear momentarily in my everyday environment, documenting the juxtaposition of plants and trees – cultivated and wild – with built structures.

Obsolete and Discontinued in Cologne

The Obsolete and Discontinued project that I am participating in is exhibiting in Cologne, Germany this winter.

Led by the amazing London based photographer, printer, and alternative processes expert Mike Crawford the project celebrates the unique features and potential of analogue photography, using out of date and discontinued photographic papers, some of which were 20-30 years old.

The project features work by about 50 photographic artists all over the world, including members of the London Alternative Photography Collective.  This is my image, a contact print from an iphone5s photograph.

Berlin Foto Biennale 2016

I’m really happy to have 3 images in the Berlin Foto Biennale 2016, opening on 6th October!

The Berlin Foto Biennale and 4th Biennale of Fine Art and Documentary Photography, features a staggering 1200 images from 460 artists from 41 countries.

The images I’m exhibiting all achieved finalist in the 7th Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for Women Photographers. They are from the following bodies of work (click on the links to find out more about them):

The exhibition is at the Palazzo Italia in the centre of Berlin, not far from the Brandenburg Gate, at Unter den Linden 10, on the corner of Charlottenstrasse.  

It runs from 6th-30th October, open every day between 12pm-7pm, except Thursdays when it is open until 9pm.

The Biennale is an associate partner of the European Month of Photography in Berlin, and also features a guest exhibition of Magnum Photographer Steve McCurry’s work, as well as a solo exhibition from Yusuke Suzuki, Gala Awards’ Emerging Talent.

BRIGHT – flower meets fence

Two images from my sketchbook project #flowermeetsfence have been chosen to be part of a lovely exhibition in the Atrium Gallery at St James’s Insitute of Oncology, Leeds.


Organised by Shutter Hub, the exhibition opens on Friday 5th August and runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, until October 26th 2016. 

The full address is St James’s Institute of Oncology, Bexley Wing, St James’s University Hospital, Beckett Street, Leeds, LS9 7TF.

Featuring a wide range of photographers, the exhibition is described as a colourful, inspiring and intriguing body of work. 25% of all sales from the exhibition will go to the Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal.
